Canadian Ron Brigham Is First-Ever
Exhibitor To Capture Both Brass Rings

One of Canada's most popular collectors---and a man who has wide and deep knowledge of the postal history of his country---scored big at exhibiting awards at the American Philatelic Society's Stampshow in Santa Clara, California, on August 27-30.

Ron Brigham's sweeping exhibit of the The Dominion of Canada: The Large Queens, 1868-1897 won the Grand Award in the Open Competition at the show. And if that wasn't enough, Ron's wonderful grand award-winning exhibit of The Province of Canada: the Pence and Cents Issues 1851-1868, became the 1998 winner of the prestigious APS Champion of Champions award.

Nothing like this has ever happened before! No exhibitor has ever won both the open grand award at the APS show while at the same time walking away with the Champion of Champions honor. It also means that Brigham will have an exhibit on two consecutive years in the respected World Series of Philately exhibiting sweepstakes.

Brigham, himself, was floored! He was so surprised and speechless that, during the moment at the Society's awards dinner when a photograph was planned of all CofC winners standing on the stage, he wandered back into the audience after he had received his honor from APS president John Hotchner.
