Immortality extended for comic
book legends

Cameron Elmore proudly shows off
his Batman and Superman stamp enlargements.
Stronger
than kryptonite, more sincere than the Lasso of Truth, more
enduring than a Power Ring and more authoritative than the
Justice League, it’s . . . a pane of 20 Super Heroes stamps!

Stamp Services Executive Director
David Failor, San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders, DC Comics Publisher and
President Paul Levitz, dedicating official USPS Judicial Officer William
Campbell, Comic-Con Public Relations and Marketing Director David
Glanzer and Super Heroes Stamp Art Director Carl Herrman.
Batman joined Superman, Wonder Woman, Plastic Man and six other
comic book legends in extending their immortality to postage
yesterday at the DC Comics Super Heroes commemorative stamps
dedication. The ceremony took place at the world’s largest comic
book and pop culture show, Comic-Con International 2006 in San
Diego, CA.
“The heroes of comic books were our personal friends. Their battles
were our battles,” said Judicial Officer William Campbell in
dedicating the stamps. “Their victories made us cheer and their
defeats made us sad. Their values helped strengthen our own
understanding of right and wrong. Today, our heroes are back in all
their glory and in some of their finest moments.”
Portraits grace 10 of the stamps, depicting Aquaman, Batman, The
Flash, Green Arrow, Green Lantern, Hawkman, Plastic Man, Supergirl,
Superman and Wonder Woman. The other 10 stamps illustrate
action-packed individual comic book covers devoted to Super Hero
exploits.
DC Comics Publisher and President Paul Levitz joined Campbell to
dedicate the stamps.
