The
H.R. Harmer firm will auction off the vast inventory of
one of the world's largest "stamp approval" companies at
their "Collections of the World" Public Auction in
Bethel, Conn., on June 5-7, 2008.
The
Tatham Stamp and Coin Company of Springfield, Mass.,
housed in a 4,000 square foot building constructed just
for them, served tens of thousands of young people and
beginning adult stamp collectors for over 50 years
beginning in the 1930s. Their inventory was not only
devoted to the inexpensive stamps favored by the novice,
but also more advanced material which Tatham sold as
their customers advanced to higher stages of collecting.
For
instance, part of the inventory to be sold at auction,
are the plates for the reprints of the stamps of the
Confederate States of America, both valuable and quite
historic.
For
more information, contact Harmer at

Included in Tatham's approval selection were little
folders
like this which helped instruct people about stamps.
