Santa gets some helpers
with the Postal Service
The
secret to a merry Christmas can come down to good penmanship.
So
says Pam Howell of Johnston, who is among a dozen or so people
who volunteered this year to open all the letters to Santa Claus
that will end up at Des Moines' main post office.
They
expect 1,000 or more, and pledge to answer each one.
"It's
quite a job," Howell said.
The
job, which begins Dec. 10, is even more difficult when Brandon
leaves off his return address or when Vanessa's cursive is
indecipherable.
That's
why Howell tells parents in advance: Help the kid craft the
letter. Do it now. Remember the stamp.
And
don't expect Santa to promise a pony just to get you off the
hook.
