Wilson Hulme
Wilson
Hulme, Curator of Philately at America's National Postal Museum
in Washington, D.C., passed away suddenly from a heart attack on
the afternoon of January 10, 2007 during a business trip to
Florida. The loss of Mr. Hulme, who was respected throughout the
world for his only his work at the Museum, but his expertise on
19th century United States philately, will be felt across the
length and breadth of the hobby. He was also the current
president of the U.S. Philatelic Classics Society, a life member
of the Confederate Stamp Alliance, and member of numrous other
philatelic organizations.
In
his early 60s at the time of his death, Wilson had overseen
major developments at the Museum, including the special showing
of the world renowned Benjamin Miller Collection, on loan from
the New York Public Library. All of the major exhibitions at the
Museum over the past seven years since Wilson took over his
position, have been overseen by him, including a spectacular
showing in 2004 of the 24-Cent Inverted Airmail, and a wonderful
exhibit of Queen Elizabeth's stamp collection in 2005. |
