WASHINGTON 2006 a
historic success!

Shown above: The gigantic Kids Zone at WASHINGTON 2006.
As big as a supermarket, this
area played hosted to thousands of kids with attractions that introduced
them to stamp collecting.
With more than 225,000 visitors coming
through its doors over the eight-day period, WASHINGTON 2006 became the
largest and most successful stamp show in American history on May 27-June
3. Thousands of those attending spent several days at the event---so huge
was the show that it took several days to see everything in it.
In the midst of many in this hobby who
exist only to be doomsayers, it's wonderful to witness a stamp show so
large, so hugely populated, and so packed with the delights of stamp
collecting, that it's easy to predict more glorious days ahead for this
166-year old hobby. Such was WASHINGTON 2006, an event which saw over
225,000 people pass through its doors.
Historically, this tenth in a serious of
U.S. international stamp shows that date back to 1913 was the biggest
philatelic event ever to take place in the Western Hemisphere, perhaps
even the world at large. Its virtually countless events and social
activities, sights, myriad major rare stamps, world class exhibits,
newly-issued stamps, world famous dealers and philatelic luminaries around
every corner made it an experience unlike any visitor ever had
experienced. Not to mention the far-reaching opportunities to not only
acquire new material for one's collection, but also to mingle with other
stamp collectors from all experience levels.
Not only was WASHINGTON 2006 huge, it is
looking like it will turn out to be the most financially successful
international show ever staged in America. We congratulate its very
capable and tireless committee and volunteers! |
